Albania to cut electricity tariffs for low-use households from February

Jan 7, 2025 -  Albanian households consuming less than 800 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per month will soon pay less, with reduced tariffs expected to come into effect from February 1. The Energy Regulatory Authority (ERE) is scheduled to review and approve the government’s proposal during a board meeting on Tuesday.

Currently, households are charged 9.5 lek per kWh before VAT, increasing to 11.4 lek with VAT included. The new tariffs, first announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku, aim to ease the financial burden on low-consumption households.

Government officials have been collaborating with OSHEE, KESH, and OST to implement the reduction. “We are confident that by optimising technical and financial processes, we can deliver a better electricity price for citizens starting January 1,” a spokesperson stated.

The price cut will apply solely to household consumers, with no changes planned for businesses, public institutions, or bakeries, which will remain under the existing pricing structure.
