Albania strengthens food safety measures to meet EU standards

Albania is strengthening its food safety measures to align with EU standards by introducing three new laws in 2025. These laws will address plant health, animal health, and official controls, while inspectorates will undergo reforms to improve efficiency.

Authorities are tightening import checks, reporting 16 cases of non-compliance in 2024 despite certified documentation. They are also isolating infectious diseases in livestock and poultry to prevent further spread.

The Ministry of Agriculture is urging farmers to use pesticides and antibiotics responsibly and encouraging consumers to report concerns promptly.
