TIRANA, Sep 1 (TemA) — Tributes poured in across Albania on Monday for Dhimitër Anagnosti, the country’s most revered film director, following news of his death.
Prime minister Edi Rama called him “the father of Albanian cinema,” citing his 1976 classic Red Poppies on the Wall as the defining title of the national screen. Rama remembered him as a “grand master who lived with his head held high.”
President Bajram Begaj said “a star has fallen from Albania’s artistic constellation,” while culture minister Mirela Kumbaro described him as “irreplaceable, both in talent and humanity.”
Former president Ilir Meta said Anagnosti would “forever remain honored among the greats,” adding that his films “will continue to inspire future generations.”
Anagnosti directed 14 feature films and 10 documentaries over a career spanning four decades, shaping Albanian cinema’s identity and earning the nation’s highest cultural awards.
