LOS ANGELES, Mar 16 (TemA) — One Battle After Another dominated the 98th Academy Awards on Sunday, winning best picture and best director for Paul Thomas Anderson after a close race with the horror hit Sinners.
The film also earned Anderson the Oscar for adapted screenplay, ending a long wait for the acclaimed filmmaker after 14 previous nominations.
Michael B. Jordan won best actor for Sinners, while Jessie Buckley took best actress for Hamnet, becoming the first Irish performer to win the category.
Veteran actress Amy Madigan won best supporting actress for Weapons, four decades after her first Oscar nomination in 1985.
Another milestone came when cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw became the first woman and first Black winner of the cinematography Oscar for Sinners.
Host Conan O'Brien returned for a second year, mixing sharp political jokes with tributes to global cinema.
The ceremony also included an emotional tribute to filmmaker Rob Reiner, introduced by longtime collaborator Billy Crystal.
Musical highlights included performances of I Lied to You from Sinners and Golden from K-Pop Demon Hunters, which later won best original song — the first Oscar for a K-pop track.
The ceremony took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
