Golden Globes 2026: wins, surprises

The Golden Globe Awards ceremony in 2026 delivered expected winners and a few major surprises, highlighting a strong year for film and television.

In film, One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, led the night with four awards, including best comedy or musical, best director and best screenplay. Teyana Taylor won best supporting actress. Its placement in the comedy category sparked debate, with critics calling it closer to a political thriller.

On television, Netflix’s Adolescence also won four awards, including best limited series, with acting prizes for Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper and Erin Dougherty.

The biggest surprise was Hamnet winning best drama. Director Chloé Zhao accepted the award from George Clooney and thanked the local community involved in filming. The film is based on the novel about William Shakespeare’s family and has Steven Spielberg as executive producer.

Other notable wins included Rhea Seehorn, who earned her first Globe for Apple TV’s Pluribus, and Timothée Chalamet, named best actor in a comedy or musical for Marty Supreme.

Questions over category choices continued, with several winners noting the blur between drama and comedy at this year’s awards.
