The BBC has singled out Albania’s Eurovision entry as one of this year’s most emotionally powerful performances ahead of the semi-finals in Vienna.
In its guide to the 2026 contest, the broadcaster praised singer Alis and his song “Nan”, which tells the story of a mother waiting for her child to return from emigration.
The BBC described the performance as deeply rooted in Albanian social reality, calling migration “a familiar wound” in the country since the fall of communism.
It also praised Alis for performing the ballad with “sincerity and passion”.
This year’s Eurovision features 35 competing songs, ranging from operatic pop and rock to politically charged ballads shaped by war, migration and identity.
