TIRANA, Sep 1 (TemA) — Dhimitër Anagnosti, one of Albania’s most influential film directors, died overnight aged 89 after a long illness, his daughter said.
Anagnosti helped define the country’s postwar cinema. Standout works include “A Tale from the Past” (1987), “Red Poppies on the Wall” (1976), “At Our Home” (1979) and “Silent Duel” (1967). His films paired intimate character studies with clear social themes and remain touchstones for Albanian audiences.
Born in Vuno in 1936, he studied directing in Moscow and spent decades at Kinostudio. He later mentored younger filmmakers. He is survived by his family, including his wife, actress Roza Anagnosti.
