Vučić: Kosovo independence opened ‘Pandora’s box’

Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vučić said Kosovo’s declaration of independence opened a “Pandora’s box” and damaged the global order.

Speaking to Serbian media during a visit to India, Vučić said the 2008 move had “catastrophic consequences” not only for Serbia, but also for Europe and the wider world.

He said NATO, the United States and European powers acted without regard for international law in 1999 and 2008.

Vučić described the period between 1999 and 2008 as the start of a decline in world order.

He also acknowledged Serbia made mistakes in the 1990s and early 2000s, citing weak leadership and internal divisions. Despite that, he said, “they did not break Serbia.”
