Beloved Albanian poet Agim Doçi dies at 76, leaving a legacy of lyrics and literature

Tirana, June 24, 2024 – Renowned Albanian poet Agim Doçi has passed away at the age of 76. He was admitted to the Neurovascular Service at QSUT two days ago in critical condition following a stroke.

Hospital sources confirmed that Doçi died this morning at 6:00 AM. His collaborators have shared heartfelt messages of condolence on social media.

Agim Doçi, born on May 9, 1948, was celebrated for his extraordinary contributions to literature. Although he graduated in engineering, his true passion lay in writing. Doçi authored over 3,000 song lyrics performed at various Albanian festivals and won more than 50 awards. He represented Albania twice at Eurovision with his lyrics.

In recognition of his significant contributions, the late President Bujar Nishani honored him with the title “Grand Master.”
