Pristina, October 9, 2024 — Kosovo's Social Democratic Party (PSD) announced it will not participate in the upcoming elections scheduled for February 9, 2025. The decision marks a significant shift for the party, which has been a prominent critic of the ruling Vetëvendosje (LVV) party.
Dardan Molliqaj, the leader of the PSD, said that the party intends to engage in the electoral process “through action and words” rather than by fielding candidates. This approach suggests a strategy focused on mobilising support and influencing public discourse outside the traditional electoral framework.
The PSD has consistently challenged the policies of LVV, advocating for greater accountability and transparency in governance. Molliqaj's announcement indicates the party's intent to maintain its visibility and voice in the political landscape, even without direct electoral participation.
As Kosovo prepares for the elections, the political climate remains dynamic, with parties adjusting their strategies in response to shifting public sentiment and ongoing governance issues. The PSD's decision not to contest could reshape the electoral narrative, leaving room for other parties to capitalize on its absence in the race.
