The European Parliament has approved an amendment calling on North Macedonia to resolve a dispute over the use of Albanian in state exams.
Lawmakers urged authorities to ensure that Albanian-speaking students have equal access to exams, including the national law exam.
The amendment says language rights remain an important part of ethnic equality in the country and calls for the full implementation of the Ohrid Agreement, which expanded rights for the Albanian minority after the 2001 conflict.
MEPs also pushed back against claims that recent student protests were politically motivated or destabilising.
The vote follows meetings between protesting students and members of the European Parliament in recent days.
