Dec 13, 2024 - PresidentEmmanuel Macron is set to announce a new prime minister today, following days of political deadlock in France. This comes after Michel Barnier was ousted in a historic no-confidence vote on December 4, triggering a fresh crisis.
Macron had been expected to name Barnier’s successor the next day, but political gridlock after the summer's unclear election results delayed the decision.
The president missed his 48-hour deadline set earlier this week during a meeting with party leaders. On December 12, Macron travelled to Poland for talks with EU and NATO allies but cut the visit short to focus on resolving the situation.
