International Criminal Court prosecutor Karim Khan has been suspended after a disciplinary process over sexual misconduct allegations.
The court’s governing body said the case would be referred to a special session of the ICC’s 125 member states, which could vote on whether to remove him.
The Guardian reported that a 21-state committee had voted by a qualified majority that Khan had committed serious misconduct linked to the allegations.
Khan, a British lawyer, has repeatedly denied the claims.
The allegations were made by a woman who worked for him at the court’s headquarters in The Hague. They concern alleged conduct in 2023 and 2024.
Khan had already temporarily stepped back from leading the ICC office responsible for investigating and prosecuting people accused of grave international crimes.
