Hamas agrees to ceasefire deal with Israel and prisoner swap

Hamas has finally agreed to a ceasefire deal with Israel, bringing hope for a break in the violence that's torn Gaza apart.

The deal, still in the works, will see dozens of hostages freed, including five Israeli female soldiers held in Gaza. In exchange, Israel will release 250 Palestinian prisoners.

Sources told Corriere della Sera the agreement is nearly finished after months of tough talks, with two Israeli officials confirming the breakthrough. A Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson, who’s been helping broker the deal, said the main sticking points have been cleared. "We’re closer than ever to finalising this deal," he added.

This comes after weeks of fighting and growing international pressure for peace. If the deal holds, it would bring much-needed relief to the people trapped in the region.

Hopes are high that this ceasefire might open the door to more talks and eventually a longer-term solution. But for now, it's a much-needed pause in a deadly conflict.
