Dec 7, 2024 - A powerful explosion rocked a residential area in The Hague early this morning, trapping at least 20 people under the rubble of a collapsed apartment building. The explosion occurred at 6:15 AM in the Marijahoev neighborhood, causing the three-story building to crumble.
Rescue teams respond quickly
Emergency crews, including Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams, firefighters, and search dogs, rushed to the scene. Authorities report that four people have been rescued so far and transported to nearby hospitals. Rescue workers are continuing to search for others who may be trapped under the debris.
Damage to surrounding buildings
The blast also caused significant damage to nearby buildings. Several streets in the area have been closed as a safety precaution. Local authorities say the building housed elderly residents as well as families with children.
“We are still searching for victims who may be buried under the rubble,” the mayor of The Hague said in a statement.
