TIRANA, Jan 21 – Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama met TikTok’s Europe public policy chief on Tuesday to discuss lifting the country’s temporary ban on the social media platform.
In a Facebook post, Rama revealed constructive talks with Christine Grahn during the World Economic Forum in Davos. The discussions tackled government concerns that led to the platform’s closure decision and laid groundwork for collaboration to ensure TikTok’s safe return.
“Together, we set milestones for cooperation in the weeks and months ahead to reopen TikTok within a reasonable timeframe, provided all necessary guarantees are in place,” Rama wrote. He warned that without those assurances, the platform’s access could soon be permanently blocked.
The Albanian government announced the ban in December 2024, citing TikTok’s role in escalating school violence. However, the app remains accessible as talks continue.
