January 20, 2025 - The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Albania has received about 42,000 applications from Albanian citizens living abroad to register for voting in the parliamentary elections on May 11.
According to the latest data, the CEC has processed over 27,000 of these applications, approving nearly 17,000.
Majority of applicants are men
Men account for 65% of the applications, with women making up 35%. The largest group of applicants falls between 26 and 35 years old, representing 29%. This is followed by the 36–45 age group with 27%, the 46–55 group with 19%, and those over 56 years with 14.6%. Young adults aged 18–25 show the least interest, accounting for less than 10%.
High interest from Italy and Greece
Most applications come from Italy, with around 14,000 submissions, followed by Greece, where over 10,000 citizens have registered. Germany ranks third with approximately 6,000 applications.
Domestically, the Tirana district leads with nearly 9,000 registrations, followed by Fier with 7,000 and Korça with 5,000. Durrës recorded more than 3,520 applications.
Online registration and voting
To encourage more participation, the CEC has launched a mobile app for Android and iOS, allowing Albanians abroad to register and vote by post. Detailed information is also available on the CEC’s official website, under the "Voters from Abroad" section.
Applications can be submitted until March 4, 2025. If an application is rejected, voters can reapply through the registration platform.
The CEC reminds applicants to ensure their information is accurate and matches the address in official documents proving their residence abroad.
