SPAK issues statement on investigation into Tirana mayor Erion Veliaj

Tirana, December 27, 2024 – The Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has confirmed it is investigating Erion Veliaj, the Mayor of Tirana, over allegations of corruption and money laundering.

In an official statement today, SPAK revealed that the inquiry stems from a complaint filed by an individual identified as N.A. The investigation is focused on several criminal offenses, including passive corruption by public officials, money laundering, and false asset declarations.

The Special Prosecution indicated that, based on initial evidence, there are "concrete data" linking Veliaj to these offenses. However, authorities are still in the early stages of the investigation, with further evidence being gathered.
