SPAK has seized €150 million in criminal assets, says chief prosecutor

Dec 2, 2024 - Altin Dumani, head of Albania’s Special Prosecution Office (SPAK), announced today that the agency has seized over €150 million in assets linked to criminal activity. Speaking at the Council of Europe’s Monitoring Committee meeting in Parliament, Dumani highlighted the agency’s progress in tackling corruption and organized crime through international cooperation.

SPAK has not only targeted high-ranking officials but also struck at violent crime and drug trafficking networks, with the help of foreign law enforcement. "Our work is based on transparency and concrete results," Dumani said, also calling for an extension of prosecutors' mandates to continue the fight.

Meanwhile, Albania’s General Prosecutor Olsian Çela stressed that the battle against corruption requires a coordinated effort across multiple institutions, not just a few agencies. "It’s a collective process that needs broad institutional cooperation," he stated.
