Elbasan, January 11, 2025 – Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama has revealed plans for the country’s first Formula 1 race, set to take place in Elbasan. The event is expected to draw a global audience of one billion and transform the city into a motorsport hub.
Speaking at a ceremony in Elbasan, Rama said the race would elevate Albania’s international profile. The new motor racing park, which will host Formula 1 and other events, will also feature a museum and recreational areas to attract tourists throughout the year.
The project is part of Albania’s wider push for development as the country moves closer to EU membership. In the same event, Rama signed an agreement to restore Elbasan’s historic castle and its surrounding neighborhood.
While some have raised doubts about hosting Formula 1 in Albania, supporters believe it will boost tourism and investment. The race is planned for 2026.
