New amnesty will see the release of 600 inmates convicted for minor offenses

600 inmates will be released, while hundreds of others will have their trial suspended following an amnesty that the Ministry of Justice has announced.

The new amnesty, which must be voted in parliament, will benefit all of those who have been convicted for minor criminal offenses until 30 June 2016.

However, people who have been convicted for serious crimes such as murder, terrorism or sex crimes, will not be subject to the new amnesty. People who have been convicted or who are under investigation for electoral crimes, illegal gambling or people who have evaded justice will not benefit from the amnesty either.
