Authorities in Albania have arrested the mayor of the northern town of Bulqiza and his deputy on Wednesday. Mayor Lefter Alla and deputy mayor Enkeleda Lleshi are accused of preferential treatment a company, whose owners are the mayor's friends, and which was selected for a project worth 2.8 million euros.
According to the Special Prosecution against Organised Crime and Corruption, the mayor is accused of favoritism in public tenders, abuse of office and forgery of documents.
Meanwhile, seven other people are also under investigation.
