Dec 17, 2024 - – A 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck northeastern Albania on Tuesday evening, shaking several regions, including the capital, Tirana.
The quake was recorded at 6:01 PM local time, with its epicentre located 40 kilometres northeast of Tirana and 12 kilometres east of the town of Burrel. It occurred at a depth of 13 kilometres, according to the Institute of Geosciences.
No damage or injuries have been reported so far, but the tremor was felt in many areas, including Tirana and Burrel.
Albania is located in a region where earthquakes are common due to the movement of tectonic plates. In 2019, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake caused significant destruction, killing 51 people and leaving thousands homeless.
