Albanian authorities on Monday blocked a Liberian-registered ship carrying suspected Russian oil in the coastal town of Durres. This operation led to the arrest the 22 members of the ship’s crew.
According to authorities, the quantity of the oil which was seized was 22,500 with a market value of 40 million euros. Police said the ship had departed from Azerbaijan and claimed to have been supplied with oil in Kalamata, Greece, from another ship.
But, Albanian authorities were not convinced and they believe the oil came from Russia.
Albania is among the many countries which has backed Western sanctions against Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.
