Albania's healthcare sector to benefit from new pay raise

Tirana, June 9, 2024 - The Albanian government has announced a significant pay raise for nearly 20,000 healthcare professionals, including doctors and nurses, starting in July. This move aims to improve the quality of healthcare services in the country and encourage the younger generation to pursue careers in the medical field.

Health minister Albana Koçiu expressed pride in the medical corps, which she believes is becoming increasingly professional and prepared. Koçiu emphasized that the government is committed to strengthening the state-doctor-citizen relationship and addressing challenges in the healthcare sector.

The pay raise is seen as a step towards European standards, which will not only benefit healthcare professionals but also improve the overall quality of healthcare services in Albania. The government aims to create better opportunities for doctors and nurses, ensuring they have the necessary support and conditions to develop their profession.

The move is expected to stimulate the younger generation to choose healthcare as a field of study in higher education, ultimately serving the country.
