TIRANA, JAN 21 – Several former Albanian officials are facing potential prison sentences after being accused of corruption related to a €19 million tender for a tunnel project on a major road.
The former head of the Albanian Road Authority and others are charged with favoring a specific company in the tender process. The Special Prosecution (SPAK) has requested significant prison terms for those involved, including sentences ranging from 8 months to 2 years, along with bans from holding public office for several years.
The investigation, which began in 2019, centers on claims that the officials unlawfully excluded a construction company from the tender process. The accused individuals deny any wrongdoing.
A final court decision is expected after a defense hearing scheduled for February 5th.
