Albania declares day of national mourning over victims caused by earthquake in Turkey and Syria

The Albanian government has declared Monday a day of national mourning over the victims caused by the destructive earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria a week ago.

Prime Minister Edi Rama and foreign minister, Olta Xhacka wrote on social media that the flag will be lowered at half-mast as a mark of respect for human suffering and solidarity which goes beyond borders.

More than 33 000 people have been reported to have died so far and thousands of others have remained wounded after the 7,8 magnitude earthquake that rattled Turkey and Syria on 6 February.
