Albania celebrates Summer Day today. This day is an Albanian spring festival and a pagan holiday, which is celebrated on March 14 to mark the end of winter season and the beginning of the summer season on the spring equinox. Summer Day has its roots in traditional Albanian, Greek and Roman religions.
Bonfires are traditionally lit to drive away the darkness of the winter season. The holiday maintains a family and traditional atmosphere, in which parents, children and families celebrate together. On this day Albanians congratulate each other on living long and happy lives.
Celebrations will take place today in most major cities of Albania, where local authorities will organize a number of activities.
