Albania and Kosovo climb in global passport rankings for 2025

Jan 7, 2024 - Albania and Kosovo have both moved up in the global passport rankings for 2025, according to the latest Henley Passport Index. Albania has jumped five places to secure 43rd position, while Kosovo has climbed five spots to 63rd, marking significant progress for both countries.

Albania’s passport now offers visa-free access to 123 countries, maintaining the same number of destinations as last year. Although the number of visa-free countries remains unchanged, Albania’s rise in the rankings highlights continued improvement in global mobility for its citizens.

Kosovo, with its passport now granting access to 80 countries, has added six new destinations to its list of visa-free travel options. This marks a positive shift for Kosovo, whose passport continues to open up more opportunities for international travel.

While both countries have made headway, they still lag behind many European nations. Countries like Germany, France, and Spain remain at the top, with their passports providing access to over 190 countries.

The Henley Passport Index, based on data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA), ranks passports based on the number of destinations their holders can access visa-free. The index is updated regularly to reflect changes in visa policies worldwide.
