US says it won't change its position with regards to officials declared non-grata

The US embassy has issued a reaction following the recent clashes and debates taken place within the Democratic Party concerning the head of the parliamentary group.

The US embassy to Tirana told News24 that functional democratic institutions, including the opposition, are vital for a healthy democracy.

The embassy says it's not its role to choose who leads political parties in Albania, but it added that it hasn't changed its position with regards to people who've been designated, referring to former PM and leader of one of the Democratic Party's factions, Sali Berisha, who, two years ago was designated by the US Department of State for significant corruption.
