US deputy secretary praises Albania’s efforts on refugees and Ukraine

Jan 9, 2025 - US Deputy Secretary of State Richard R. Verma and Chargé d’Affaires Nancy VanHorn sat down with Prime Minister Edi Rama in Tirana on Wednesday to discuss Albania’s role on the global stage.

During their meeting, Verma praised Albania’s remarkable support for Afghan refugees and its steadfast assistance to Ukraine. He also stressed the importance of Albania’s EU integration, describing it as crucial for the nation’s future.

Verma congratulated Albania on being selected for an MCC (Millennium Challenge Corporation) Compact, calling it a key opportunity to drive economic growth and bring Albania closer to full EU membership.

“Albania has proven itself a reliable partner and a true contributor to global security,” Verma said, reaffirming the strong US-Albania relationship.
