TIRANA, December 23, 2024 — Albania's parliamentary deputy speaker, Bledi Çuçi, rejected the opposition’s request to form an investigative committee into the Durrës port development project during a meeting of the Conference of Party Whips on Monday.
Çuçi explained that the proposal could not be approved as the issue is under review by the Constitutional Court. The opposition had called for an inquiry into the legality of the project, which has become a focal point of political debate.
“We have never opposed investigative committees,” Çuçi said. “But the request appears both delayed and rushed. The matter is before the Constitutional Court, and we must wait for its ruling.”
He added that the opposition had challenged the legal framework for the Durrës port project in the Constitutional Court, leaving the parliament in limbo until the court’s decision.
