Politics in Pristina: The Rama-Kurti Rift

Pristina, June 10, 2024 — The Kosovo government has officially commented on the recent visit of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama to Pristina, which did not include a one-on-one meeting with Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti. This has sparked controversy, with many accusing Kurti of not making time for Rama. However, the Kosovo government claims that Rama's office declined an invitation to participate in activities marking the 25th anniversary of Kosovo's liberation on June 12.

Rama is currently in Kosovo, where he met with President Vjosa Osmani and attended the International Conference 'Rugova and the West,' honoring President Rugova's political legacy. According to the Kosovo government, Rama is in Pristina to establish and strengthen relations with key individuals.

The government spokesperson, Përparim Kryeziu, emphasized that Rama's office was formally invited to the June 12 celebrations but declined. Kryeziu also extended an invitation to Rama to join the state agenda, including the 146th Manifestation of the League of Prizren, which is not exclusive to Kosovo.

This development has further strained relations between the two prime ministers, Edi Rama and Albin Kurti."
