Today is election silence in Albania and political campaigning is banned. On Sunday, May 14, Albanians will head to the polls to elect their 61 new mayors.
A total of 140 candidates are running in these elections. The race for big cities is expected to be tight.
Six candidates are running for the capital, Tirana. The race is expected to be tight in Shkodra, Durres and Elbasan too. In these three municipalities along with Vlora and Kamza, people will be able to vote electronically. For this reason, the election results are expected to come out within a short period of time.
Let us recall that the Democratic Party will only be running in 14 municipalities. The ruling Socialist Party will be challenged by the “Together we win” coalition led by former PM, Sali Berisha and the leader of the Freedom Party and former president, Ilir Meta.
