With half of the votes already counted, incumbent mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj has widened the gap against his rival, Belind Kellici. The socialist candidate leads by 30 thousand votes.
Meanwhile, the other candidate, Arlind Qori ranks third with 7,266 votes.
The latest results show the Socialist Party maintains a comfortable lead in the majority of municipalities. The biggest surprise of these elections is the fact that the socialist candidate could also win in Shkodra, which has always been known to be a democrat stronghold, where socialists have never won.
