Former leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, who resigned after ex PM, Sali Berisha decided to take over the party’s leadership last year, has made a public reappearance today during a meeting he held with young activists of this party.
During this meeting, the former democrat leader, who could once again run for party leader, made three suggestions as to how the current government can be overthrown and for democrats to win the next parliamentary elections in 2025.
The former Democratic Party chairman suggested open candidate lists during elections, vetting of politicians and the limitation of the number of terms an official can serve in office.
These statements come at a time when the Democratic Party has been plagued by deep divisions and the biggest election defeat in its history. The main opposition party is divided into two parts and the big schism occured when Berisha was asked by former party leader, Lulzim Basha to leave following a decision by the US Department of State to designate him as persona non-grata for significant corruption and for mining democracy.
