Albanian President Begaj meets German counterpart to strengthen bilateral ties

Berlin, June 19, 2024 - President Bajram Begaj, currently on a two-day visit to Germany, met today with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation and Albania's EU integration.

During the meeting, President Begaj highlighted the significance of the political partnership between Albania and Germany. He emphasized Germany’s ongoing support for Albania's reforms and development.

"This meeting showcases our excellent political cooperation and Germany's consistent focus on Albania," said Begaj. "Germany's support is crucial for Albania's EU integration. Their role in the Western Balkans is indispensable, especially amid challenges to our Euro-Atlantic aspirations. Close regional cooperation is vital. The European future is our guide to prosperity."

President Begaj began his official visit to Germany at the invitation of President Steinmeier. While in Berlin, Begaj will also engage with diaspora leaders to discuss the integration of Albanians in Germany, covering economic, social, and political aspects.

Following his stay in Berlin, Begaj will travel to Hamburg to join Albanian fans at the "Volksparkstadion" to support the national team in their Euro 2024 match against Croatia.

His agenda also includes meetings with the German Special Representative for the Western Balkans, Manuel Sarrazin, and former European Parliament rapporteur for Albania, Knut Fleckenstein.
