TIRANA, DEC 2, 2024 – Albania’s fight against corruption and organized crime is more urgent than ever, according to Taulant Balla, the Minister of State for Relations with Parliament. Speaking at a meeting of the Committee on Compliance with the Obligations and Commitments of Council of Europe Member States, Balla highlighted the Albanian government’s commitment to tackling these issues head-on.
Balla emphasized that the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) is already delivering results in the battle against corruption, a key government priority. He also pointed to Albania’s ongoing judicial reform, which includes vetting procedures for judges to ensure a more transparent and independent justice system.
“Reforms like vetting are essential for improving the integrity, independence, and efficiency of the justice system,” Balla said. “While we celebrate the progress we’ve made, we know there’s still work to do.”
The creation of the Ministry of State for Public Administration and Anti-Corruption shows the government’s dedication to addressing corruption across all levels of public service. Balla reaffirmed that institutions such as SPAK and BKH are playing a crucial role in tackling corruption in Albania.
