A protest was staged in front of parliament in the Montenegrin parliament, Podgorica, on Tuesday evening by the "Luça" forum and backed by opposition parties.

Some hundreds of protesters from all over the country gathered with EU, US, Ukrainian flags on their hands and chanted slogans against the current government led by Dritan Abazovic and parties that hold a majority in parliament.

Protesters requested the holding of early elections. Besides president Djukanovic's party, the protest was also supported by several small parties, who urged their supporters to gather in front of the country's national assembly.

The organisers of the protest said "nobody should keep quiet in front of the constitutional, economic and social anarchy that dominates Montenegro".

The protest was also against the parliamentary majority, which refuses to declare early elections.  The Democratic Front, Democrats and URA party, are trying to amend the law in order to form a new government, the third one since the holding of a general election in 2020.

Meanwhile, protesters also called on the government to withdraw the bill on the president, through which the government is aiming to take over president Milo Djukanovic's powers as far as the nomination of the PM is concerned. Djukanovic has sent the bill back to parliament and by considering it to be unconstitutional.

Since the beginning of the year, Montenegro has gone through a political crisis after the collapse of Abazovic's government and the refusal of the majority in parliament to hold fresh elections.
