Kosovo’s PM, Albin Kurti and Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic are expected to meet in France on the margins of the Paris Peace Forum as both countries are under international pressure to avoid tension and to work together in order to normalize relations.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Kurti said in a video message posted on social media that he will travel to Paris at the invitation of French president, Emmanuel Macron.

He said that during his stay in Paris, there could be a trilateral meeting with the Serbian president, who is also invited there, underlining the fact that he’s always “ready, prepared and interested to engage in dialogue in order to reach an agreement for the normalization of ties between Republic of Kosova and Serbia, centered on mutual recognition.

On Wednesday, Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic told reporters in Belgrade that he’s expecting to hold talks with the EU chief diplomat, Josep Borrell and the EU envoy, Miroslav Lajcak, but he didn’t mention the possibility of a meeting with PM Kurti.

Tensions between Kosovo and Serbia rose after the decision announced by PM Kurti’s government to convert Serbian-issued license plates used by many Serbs in the north of Kosovo with Kosovan-issued plates.

Both the EU and US called on the sides to refrain from actions, which could lead to clashes, while expressing their disappointment over the fact that the Kosovan government ignored the international community’s request to delay the implementation of the license plate rule for another 10 months.
