January 16, 2025 – Friends and family of Kosovo Serb politician Oliver Ivanovic gathered Thursday to mark the seventh anniversary of his murder. Candles were lit at the spot where he was shot dead on January 16, 2018, outside his office in North Mitrovica.
Among the mourners were Serbian opposition politicians and activists. Dejan Nedeljkovic, a local activist, said Ivanovic’s commitment to solving problems through words, not violence, left a lasting impact. "Sadly, violence won," he added.
Ivanovic had been a fierce critic of the Serbian-backed Srpska Lista party and the Serbian government.
A memorial service in Belgrade was attended by top officials, but the killers remain free. In June 2024, four Serbs were convicted of aiding the murder, but key suspects Milan Radoicic and Zvonko Veselinovic were not charged.
Serbia’s Organized Crime Prosecution is still investigating, but the case remains shrouded in secrecy. Ivanovic's son, Nikola, said he felt betrayed by the lack of progress: “We have a verdict, but no answers.”
