Kosovo president criticizes EU for unfair treatment and delayed membership

Pristina, December 18, 2024 – Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has criticized the European Union for its "disappointing" and "unfair" treatment of Kosovo, accusing the bloc of undermining the country’s progress.

Osmani expressed frustration over the EU's failure to lift sanctions and delay in reviewing Kosovo’s application for EU membership. She emphasized that Kosovo has met all its obligations and is "number one in the region in terms of reforms and values," yet continues to face penalties.

"The EU has left Kosovo's application 'in the drawers somewhere,'" Osmani said, pointing to the lack of movement on the issue. She also condemned the EU for its approach to Serbia, which she said remains aligned with Russia and China while engaging in destabilizing actions in the region.

Osmani’s comments reflect growing dissatisfaction with the EU’s handling of Kosovo’s path to integration, as the country continues to press for a clear path to membership despite its progress.
