The real "Primaries" concluded on 6 March

Sali Berisha’s struggle to certify his domination over the opposition through the process that he calls “primaries” is the only event happening to the opposition. Worried by the fact that the Democratic Party’s parliamentary group and the international factor refuse to accept him, Berisha is now trying to orchestrate a new show, to prove to everyone that he still has the majority within the opposition. This is why he needs the “primaries”, to certify his domination over the opposition itself.

Under the current division and the strong hostility between the Democratic Party’s fractions, “primaries” are practically a war between those who support Berisha and the ones who support his opponents. In other words, it is not a process that aims to produce the best candidates for the upcoming local elections. Furthermore, it is now obvious that Berisha’s candidate would win the “primaries” even if they were a serious electoral process when it comes to rules and standards. However, considering that, apart from party members, fans will also be allowed to vote, we are not dealing anymore with elections, but rather with the selection of Berisha’s candidate as the winner.

Sali Berisha needs this in order to prove to US, British and other western diplomats that he is the most powerful leader within the opposition. Apart from this, “primaries” are rather useless. The inner competition will divide the Democratic Party even further, while increasing tensions between fractions and thus resulting in a non-functional coalition where each side will fight to blame the other for division.

The closest to that the opposition has ever been to a “primaries” process were the March 6th partial local elections, during which we witnessed that Berisha clearly dominates over the other fraction. Under the current hostility, his candidates will dominate over their opponents with even more hatred. Therefore, this is an adventure not needed by any of the sides. The Democratic Party’s real issue is not to certify if Berisha has the majority or not, but rather to integrate the “minorities” that defeat the opposition.

Despite all, Berisha is only looking for a way to confirm his majority over the Democratic Party, in order to be able to blame those who refuse him for the potential loss in the upcoming elections. This is why he keeps postponing the date for the primaries, so that they will get tired and eventually surrender to him. Berisha’s real intention is to defeat the “inside enemies,” and his true political opponents. This is the only goal of the “primaries,” which so far are neither elections, nor honest or just.  The March 6th partial local elections served more as “primaries” and Berisha already won them against his opponents in the Democratic Party. The current “primaries” process is nothing more than a strategy to get rid of the “inside enemies.”
