Sali Berisha is preparing his excuse for the potential failure of his protest on December 6th. The first sign was given recently as he invited protesters to be in Tirana the day before. In a meeting with supporters, Berisha asked for protesters who will arrive from other cities, to be in Tirana on December 5th, claiming that highways and roads leading to the capital might be blocked on December 6th.

It is not true that roads will be blocked, except for the ones made public according to the safety plan. Furthermore, several leaders of the European Union will arrive in Tirana on December 5th, which means that the same safety plan will be applied that day by the police. However, Sali Berisha is concerned only as how he will justify the failure of his protest on December 6th and cause confusion by speaking of two different dates.

What was even more ridiculous was Berisha’s invite for Democrats to host family members and friends arriving from different cities in Tirana on December 5th, as if they were secret guerrilla groups with nowhere to stay. Considering the Democratic Party’s current situation, its members and supporters should be cautious of each other, rather than friendly.

On Thursday, Berishaa advanced the excuses for the potential failure of his protest when he claimed that demonstrators will take over the boulevard and hence they are the only ones accountable. In other words, he avoided any personal engagement or responsibility regarding the protest. It is the same statement that he makes use of every time that the Democratic Party loses. In this case too, he is leaving the responsibility for the potential failure of the protest on the demonstrators themselves.

In the end, he blamed Edi Rama for making December 6th a day off for the public administration and then cancelling it. Actually, this is not true. Certain media outlets claimed that December 6th would be a day off, whereas the Prime Minister clarified that this was not true. According to Berisha, if December 6th was a day off, then the public administration would be part of his protest, thus blaming Edi Rama for not giving the day off.

It remains to be seen what other excuses Sali Berisha will come up in the next few days, but it is not clear that he is gradually erasing all details regarding the protest, starting with the date and time, its leaders and then the protest itself. Little by little, he is completing all excuses that might be needed in case of a potential failure, for which he will obviously blame Edi Rama at the end of the day.
