For those despairing the opposition two weeks prior to the elections day

We are currently witnessing the repeating of events similar to those of 2021 elections, only not from the leader of the former Socialist Movement for Integration, but rather from the party’s former leader. Only ten days prior to the 2021 parliamentary elections, Ilir Meta launched a campaign of public attacks against the US Ambassador and later even against the United States, claiming that he was even prepared to be executed. Apparently, certain details and myths about the former State Security and how it used to execute people and hide their bodies in the mountains, Ilir Meta in a delusional way, blew up the people’s trust towards the opposition.

On Thursday, Monika Kryemadhi repeated the same strategy. Through a vile rhetoric, Mrs. Kryemadhi attacked the US Ambassador in the worst way, going so far as issuing violent threats against anyone who might put her children at risk. Now the motherly instinct of defending her children at any cost is biological and one should not blame her for it. However, the rest of her speech is quite problematic. It is problematic especially for the opposition that seems to believe that, by intensifying its aggressive rhetoric against the US, they will be loved more by Albanians.

Mrs. Kryemadhi might have her own issues with the United States, including her doubts that US authorities may be behind the revealing of her foreign bank accounts as well as transactions with Russian oligarchs. She might even have other doubts that the public is not aware of, but her personal concerns cannot become opposition’s issue only two weeks prior to the local elections. Now, considering Kryemadhi’s harsh rhetoric, even if the opposition apologizes to the public on a daily basis until the elections day, it is safe to say that they still will lose as they already have created the perception that they are fighting against the United States and not against the government.

The same happened in 2021, prior to Sali Berisha’s designation as non-grata by the State Department. The firs perception that the opposition was fighting against the US was created by Ilir Meta’s statements. Today, the call to fight against the US is being issued by Monika Kryemadhi.

We can only hope that there will be no killings, since that would complete the 2021 scenario. Meanwhile, we can only stand back and watch how the opposition dissolves in front of our eyes, only because Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi like to attack the US two weeks prior to the elections day. There is not much sense also in their claims that polls have been paid by Edi Rama in order to show the opposition in a bad light. Now, if Rama has bought anyone, it must be Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi as they are the ones who are destroying the opposition free of charge.
