The Ukraine conflict is boosting grain production in Albania

June 23, 2024 - In 2023, Fier County emerged as the top producer of grains in Albania, according to the latest report by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT). The county achieved a production of 176,584 tons, surpassing Elbasan and Korçë with 95,572 tons and 83,889 tons respectively.

This increase in grain production is linked to Albanian farmers' growing focus on wheat cultivation, influenced by higher prices in global markets following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Overall, Albania's grain production in 2023 reached 701,314 tons.

Additionally, vegetable production in Albania totaled 1,384,483 tons for the year, with Fier, Tirana, and Berat counties leading in yields. Greenhouse farming, which accounts for 22.43% of total vegetable production, experienced a slight decline of 0.16% compared to the previous year, with significant contributions from Fier and Berat counties.
