This year too, tourism promises to be one of the main pillars of the Albanian economy thanks to the large number of foreign visitors who pick the country as their favourite destination.
According to data released by the country's office for statistics, INSTAT, during the first quarter of the year, Albania has been visited by 1 million foreign tourists, up 59.5% as opposed to the same period in 2022.
These figures confirm the positive expectations that tour operators have for this holiday season. The main challenge, though, is to exceed the record number of tourists that visited the country in 2022, which was 7.5 million.
According to INSTAT, most of these visitors were from countries such as Italy, Spain and Portugal. Meanwhile, the number of US tourists has also seen a rise compared to the first quarter of last year.
In 2022, which is considered to be the best year for Albanian tourism, revenues generated from this sector were 2.8 billion euros.
