The EU’s €6 billion boost for the Western Balkans is stuck in delays, with no money flowing yet to Albania or its neighbors.
The funding—meant to fuel economic growth and speed up EU integration—was expected last year. But according to Radio Free Europe, the hold-up isn’t on Brussels’ end. Instead, some countries, including Kosovo, need to finalize loan agreements first.
The big picture? The package covers Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Montenegro from 2024 to 2027. Of the €6 billion, €2 billion are non-repayable grants, while the rest are low-interest loans.
Albania’s cut? €922 million, with €64.5 million set aside for pre-financing.
For now, the wait continues—while the region wonders when the much-needed cash will finally arrive.
