Albania's trade gap shrinks 8.1% y/y in Jan-Feb

Albania's trade deficit narrowed 8.1% year-on-year in the first two months of 2023, to 47 billion leks ($436 million/410 million euro), the national statistical office said on Friday.

Exports expanded by 11.2% on the year to 80 billion leks in the period under review, while imports inched up 3.2% to 128 billion leks, INSTAT said in a statement.

In February alone, Albania's trade deficit totalled 31 billion leks, down 0.8% year-on-year.

Italy remained Albania's main trading partner in the January-February period, absorbing Albanian exports of 33.1 billion leks and providing 28.6 billion leks worth of imports to the country.

Albania exported mainly minerals, fuels and electricity, textile and footwear, and construction materials and metals.

In 2022, Albania's trade deficit widened by 7.3 % year-on-year to 464 billion leks.  (SeeNews)
