Albania’s railways, long stuck in the past, are finally getting a modern makeover. With €136 million from the EU, EIB, and EBRD, key routes like Durrës–Tirana (with a new airport link) and Vora–Hani i Hotit are being upgraded.
The goal? Faster, greener trains and better connections to Europe. The Durrës–Qafë Thanë line is set to become a crucial link in the EU’s eastern network, especially after China bypassed Albania with its Thessaloniki-Serbia railway.
By 2035, over 75% of Albania’s 425 km network will be modernized. Next stop: a sustainable, connected future.
